This sounds reasonable to me. I wouldn't expect them to do repair under 
warrenty to an OEM drive. The NEC warrenty may actually not last as long 
as the OEM warrenty, further they have no idea about what the warrent is 
or when you bought your drive.

I assume you mean Mediavision when you say be careful from whom you
buy, and I would agree. If you mean NEC then It think that's unreasonable.
I know of no CD-ROM manufacturer selling through the OEM channel who 
supports warrenties that they do not write including Sony, Panasonic,
Mitsumi,
and Toshiba. Do you think that if you buy an Apple with a Toshiba drive it
and
it breaks that you should take it Toshba to fix? I would think Apple.
