Hi there,

I know this might not be the appropriate news group for this question but
our site doesn't receive any games related news groups so...

I've got a 486DX66 pc with 16 Mb of memory, an adaptec scsi card (1542B) with
two scsi disks and 1 scsi cd-rom (apple 300). I also have a soundblaster 16
multicd ASP installed. Plus of course a vga card : TSENG ET4000

Nothing particular changed on the scsi card.
Changed hardware settings on the soundblaster card : Base i/o address of
MPU-401 port : 300H (interfereing with scsi controller)
Also high DMA channel for soundblaster card -> channel 7
Disabled joystick port on soundblaster as well as all cd-rom interfaces

This hardware configuration seems to work with windows and some games but
with "The 7th Guest" I seem to have a problem :
Frequently there are some squares appearing on the screen (about 2mm x 2mm)
with different colours then the suurounding squares. (Some -> 1/30 of the
screen usually in some sort of horizontal bands). Sometimes the intro crashes
when to much squares appear, sometimes the game crashes.
The problem seems to be repeatable and depending on configuration of autoexec
or config.sys or t7g the squares appear on different places but with the same
configuration usually always the same interference.

1st question : Although the box of t7g mentions my soundblaster card in the
install program there isn't a soundblaster 16/ASP mentioned. There is a
soundblaster, soundblaster pro1 and soundblaster pro/2. Which one should I
take ?

2nd question : these are the autoexec.bat and config.sys. Does somebody
sees something wrong or something which might solve my problem ?

Config.sys :

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
FILES=30
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE VERBOSE RAM
DOS=HIGH
SHELL=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM /E:256 /P
BREAK=ON
LASTDRIVE=D
BUFFERS=25,8
DEVICEHIGH=C:\SYS\GMOUSE.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=C:\SYS\ASPI4DOS.SYS /D
DEVICEHIGH=C:\SYS\ASPICD.SYS /D:ASPICD0

Autoexec.bat :
@ECHO OFF
VERIFY ON
SET COMSPEC=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM
SET ROOTDIR=C:\
SET TMP=C:\TMP
SET TEMP=C:\TMP
PATH C:\DOS;C:\BIN
LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:ASPICD0 /L:D /M:20 /E /V

And finally this is the groove.ini file :
