I have recently purchased 'prophone' which is a 4 CD set containing both white
and yellow pages throughout the US. This is a DOS only application which has
some very nice searching features. You can enter all or portions of a name,
street address, city, state, zip, phone number, and SIC code. It's pretty
fast on my 486 DX66 machine with 16 meg of memory. Since it dumps portions of
its database to memory the more the better. Some people (like myself) have
a problem with a package that allows the user to obtain home addresses by
supplying a phone number like this one does. If your into marketing you will
like the ability to print out mailing lists based on search criteria. My only
problem with this software is that the phone numbers seem to be outdated. I
have several friends who moved three and sometimes four years ago but still
have their old phone numbers listed. The software comes with a subscription
service to obtain quarterly updates for a price.
