Hello.  I work at a computer hardware store and have sold many CDROM players.
Here's the bottom line.  Buy a Double Speed Drive.  Panasonic, Sony, Mitsumi 
all make excellent lower end drives.  NEC, Toshiba make higher end units and 
you really don't get too much more for your money.  The average difference of 
seek time between an old single speed drive to the new fancy triple speed 
drives is about 6 seconds.  I think we can all live with that.  You'll find 
double speed drives run live motion video just fine.  Good Luck
